A simple donut bun can easily be transformed with a side braid detail. In this style a Dutch braid frames your face and wraps around your bun to create a chic look from every angle. The braided side bun can be messed up for a relaxed daytime feel or dressed up for a formal evening event. This type of hairstyle is especially perfect for parties, as you know it’s going to last all night.
IDEAL HAIR LENGTH
HAIR EXTENSIONS NEEDED?
Yes, but you can do this style in your own hair with practice.
The braid stars as the accessory in this style, although a sparklypin or flower corsage would also sit beautifully with this bun.
If you’ve yet to master the Dutch braid, you can do a regular braid and wrap this around the bun to achieve a similar look. If your hair is very long, you can skip the donut bun and just twist your hair into a sleek bun at the side.

HOW TO GET IT
WHAT YOU NEED
- 2 hair elastics
- Hair donut
- Bobby pins
1). Start by making a deep side part and brush your hair to remove any knots. Take a 1-inch section on top of your part and split it into three sections. This is the start of the Dutch braid.
2). Cross the right piece under the middle, then the left piece under the right, forming a braid. When you cross the middle section under, add in some hair.
3). Continue braiding, only adding in hair on the right-hand side. Angle your braid along your hairline and over the top of your ear. Stop adding in hair when you pass your ear. Finish the braid and secure with a small clear elastic. Gather the rest of your hair into a side ponytail, next to your braid, and secure with a hair elastic.
4). Backcomb your ponytail and use a hair donut at the base of your ponytail to create a large side bun.
5). Wrap your braid around the base of your bun and pin in place. Add a spritz of hairspray to finish the look.
TOP TIP : To achieve a big, dramatic braid, you’ll need to gently pull at the sides to widen it. If you have bangs, you can leave them out or incorporate them. If you leave them out and then change your mind, you can easily pin them back underneath your braid.
