Curly Ponytail

THE LOOK

This hairstyle is perfect for those with naturally curly hair, but you can also use a curling iron to create your own curls. The secret to this style is using a hair bungee instead of an elastic to secure the ponytail in place. A hair bungee is a piece of elastic with a hook at each end which wraps around your ponytail so that you don’t need to pull your curls through a tight band. This leaves your curls in much better shape and less frizzy than with a normal hair elastic.

ACCESSORIES

Pretty up your ponytail with a flower corsage, or keep it simple with a headband to keep your bangs away from your face.

TRY THIS

This ponytail can be worn in any position: it all depends on your curls and how you like to wear them. Try putting your hair up into a high crown ponytail, gathering your curls at your neck for a low ponytail, or sweeping them over your shoulder for a side pony.

HOW TO GET IT CURLY PONYTAIL

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Curl cream or gel (optional)
  • Blow-dryer and diffuser attachment (optional)
  • 1-inch curling iron (optional)
  • Hair bungee
  • Bobby pin (optional)

1). Style your curls as you would normally wear them. For naturally curly hair, use a curl cream or gel to and let your curls dry naturally. You can use a diffuser attachment on your blow-dryer to dry them more quickly. For straight hair, use a 1-inch curling iron to curl your hair. Work in small sections, starting from underneath and working up to the top of your hair. Let the curls cool and gently shake them with your fingertips to create a more natural look.

2). Use your fingers to gather your hair into a ponytail. It’s best to avoid brushes and combs, as they break up curls and cause them to frizz.

3–4). Take your hair bungee and hook it into the base of your ponytail. Wind it around your hair until it is tight enough to hold. Place the other hook in your hair to secure your ponytail.

5). Gently pull at the hair around the bungee to soften the look. Your curls should hide the bungee, or you can pin a small piece of hair around to cover it.

TOP TIP : To keep your curls looking defined and frizz-free, don’t use a brush or comb on dry hair. Instead, use your fingers to shape your ponytail. After washing, don’t rub your curls with a towel, as this will cause them to frizz. Instead, just squeeze the excess water out with a towel and dry with a blow-dryer.
