Fishtail Braided Bun

THE LOOK

Amp up the texture in your top knot with this fishtail braided bun. This hairstyle works best in long hair, but you can use extensions or padding to add more volume to the finished look. The braid is made up of two fishtail braids that twist around to form a top knot. You can’t really tell that it’s a fishtail braid when it’s finished, but you can see the beautiful herringbone texture of the braid. Fishtail braids are traditionally messy, so be prepared for the bun to be messy too. This is an excellent look for a fun day out with friends.

ACCESSORIES

With so much detail in the fishtail braided bun, you can keep it simple with your hair accessories. A classic barrette or headband is all that’s needed to dress up this hairstyle.

TRY THIS

If you have very long hair, you can just do one braid and wind it all the way around to form the bun. Alternatively, try braiding three or four smaller fishtail braids and twist them up into a more detailed bun.

TOP TIP : Stretching out your braids before twisting them into the bun emphasizes the delicate shape of the braids and adds more detail to the finished bun. You can still adjust the bun once it is pinned in place, but it’s easier to shape the braids beforehand.
