Messy Low Bun

THE LOOK

The elegance of this bun lies in its simplicity. There are countless examples of this look being used on the red carpet, and the reason is because it’s the perfect style counterpoint to high fashion. The messy low bun sits nonchalantly at the nape of your neck, and creates an aura of effortless perfection, making it an easy everyday style.

ACCESSORIES

This undone style is best left without accessories. If you want to go for a bohemian flower power vibe though, add a flower crown or weave flowers into the bun.

TRY THIS

Embrace messy hair! If your hair is curly or wavy, this style is perfect for you. The messy low bun can also be worn to the side for a chic asymmetrical look.

HOW TO GET IT MESSY LOW BUN

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Dry shampoo
  • Hair elastic
  • Comb
  • Bobby pins
  • Hairpins (optional)

1). Encourage the texture in your hair by using dry shampoo to add texture and body. Don’t brush your hair. Instead, use your fingertips to gather your hair into a low ponytail above the nape of your neck, and secure with a hair elastic.

2). Gently backcomb your ponytail to increase the volume in your hair and to make it messier. Pull at the hair above your ponytail so that it’s not too tight, and leave some strands loose.

3). Gently twist your ponytail and curve it around its own base to form a bun. Use bobby pins to secure the bun in place. If your hair is thick or curly, try using hairpins for a stronger hold.

4). Pull some pieces of hair from the bun loose so that the bun is uneven. Remember, this is a messy bun, so have some fun with your hair!

TOP TIP : If your hair is freshly washed, you can fake messy hair by using dry shampoo or styling powder to add matte texture. Remember, this style is meant to be imperfect and will look a little different each time you style it.
