Pretzel Braid

THE LOOK

This pretty twist on pigtails is a fun way to wear your hair up. Two pigtail braids twist around each other in a pretzel shape that sits low at the back of your head. This tyle doesn’t have to be precise— the idea is to create a nice curved shape from the braid. The look is cool, modern, and distinctive and complements any outfit.

HAIR EXTENSIONS NEEDED?

No

ASSISTANCE NEEDED?

Yes, but you can do this in your own hair with practice.

ACCESSORIES

Because this is a decorative braid, you don’t want to overdo it with more accessories. A simple pin at the center of the pretzel draws attention to your braid.

TRY THIS

Once you’ve mastered this version, try creating other shapes and styles with your pigtails. You can also try the pretzel style using the fishtail braid or uneven braid techniques.

3). Cross one braid over the other. Take the braid that’s now below and twist it around the other braid to create a “C” shape. Pin in place with bobby pins.

4). Repeat with the other braid, curving it up and around to make the same shape, and pin in place.

5). Adjust your braids to sit in a kind of pretzel or knot shape at the back of your head. Tuck the ends of your braids behind the knot and pin them using bobby pins. Use hairpins to secure the style if you have thick hair.

TOP TIP : Start your pigtails a little higher on your head so that you have more space to arrange your pretzel-shaped bun. If you need help keeping your braids in place, you can section your hair with elastics before braiding, but remember to remove the top elastics before assembling the pretzel shape.
