Short Hair Braid

THE LOOK

You really don’t need long hair to be able to wear a braid. Lace braids can also work in short hair, and this Dutch-style braid is perfect for shorter hair. The braid runs around your hairline and finishes behind your ear. The rest of your hair can be twisted into a low updo or left out. As long as your hair is at least 3 inches long, you can do this braid. Curly hair looks awesome in this style.

ACCESSORIES

You can use a flower corsage or jeweled pin in your hair to accent this hairstyle, but this is a personal choice. The braids add unique detail to a shorter style, so extra accessories are really not necessary.

TRY THIS

Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, you could do two Dutch braids next to each other to create a more distinctive braided look.

HOW TO GET IT SHORT HAIR BRAID

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Brush
  • Tail comb
  • Small hair elastics
  • Bobby pins
  • Hairspray

1). Brush your hair to remove any knots. Use a tail comb to create a part across the top of your head from ear to ear. Brush the front section forward.

2). Gather the rest of your hair in a small elastic at the back. Depending on the length of your hair, twist and pin the back of your hair into a little bun and secure with bobby pins.

3). Next, take a section of hair at the front and split it into three. Make a Dutch braid following your hairline around to your bun at the back.

4). Pin the ends of your braid into your bun with bobby pins.

5). Pull at the edges of your braid to emphasize the shape. Pin any loose pieces, but leave a few loose layers of hair around your face. Use hairspray to finish the style so that it holds in your hair.

TOP TIP : To give your hair some texture, volume, and body, curl your hair before you begin using a 1–inch barrel curling iron. A volumizing mousse or pomade will also aid in giving your hair more texture.
