The Fishtail Braid is classic. These steps show it on the side, but they apply for any position. I love styling it with messy, textured hair as it gives the braid a nice full look. This is a style that works well on thirdor fourth-day hair!
). Gather your hair in a low side ponytail and tie it off using a clear elastic. Split the tail into two sections.
). Using your index finger, split off a small section of hair from the right section.
). Point your index finger toward the left section.
). Grab that small section and incorporate it into the left section.
). Using your index finger, split off a small section of hair from the left section.
). Point your index finger toward the right section.
). Incorporate that small section into the right section. You will start seeing your fishtail form. Make sure to keep the strands tight as you can always go in and loosen them later.
). Continue braiding down the hair.
). Tie off the fishtail braid and cut out the elastic up top, making sure to not snip your hair.
). Now you’re going to pancake your fishtail. You can leave it nice and tight or pull out some of the layers to make it look a little more effortless. It’s all personal preference.
